A weekly newsletter sharing instances of hope, humor, and humanity.
Hello readers! Welcome back to the FGF newsletter. Here are a few of the cheering or compelling things I've come across this week. As always, if you have anything you'd like to share - articles, podcasts, books, interesting finds - email me at cambria [at] simplyrecipes [dot] com with the title "Feel Good Friday." Thanks for being a part of our community! What I Liked This Week:
Barack Obama's eulogy for John Lewis: "He treated everyone with kindness and respect because it was innate to him, this idea that any of us can do what he did—if we're willing to persevere. He believed that in all of us there exists the capacity for great courage. That in all of us, there's a longing to do what's right. That in all of us there's a willingness to love all people, and extend to them their God-given rights. So many of us lose that sense. It's taught out of us. We start feeling as if, in fact, we can't afford to extend kindness or decency to other people. That we're better off if we're above other people and looking down on them, and so often that's encouraged in our culture. But John always said he always saw the best in us, and he never gave up and never stopped speaking out because he saw the best in us. He believed in us even when we didn't believe in ourselves."
A few years ago I bought this stainless steel divided plate for my oldest daughter when she was a toddler, and now my younger daughter uses it. It's practically indestructible and so great for smorgasbord lunches (aka whatever bits and bobs you can find in the fridge!). Highly recommend.
"Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself." ― William Martin from this book, which is definitely on my must-read list now.
Here's hoping your weekend is like this. -CambriaProduct and Lifestyle Director

It's summertime and that means it's time to grill! These easy grilled BBQ chicken sandwiches are just what you (and your backyard) ordered. Tangy barbecue sauce, shredded chicken, and toasty bun piled high crunchy slaw make this a family dinner win. Use your favorite store-bought BBQ sauce, or make your own at home. This recipe for Kansas City Barbecue Sauce is one of our favorites!

Nothing beats a fresh tomato right from the garden. Or the farmers' market. Or a roadside stand. Any of these locations will do, really. All revered seasonal foods require a mad culinary dash to use them quickly. Luckily, we love tomatoes here at Simply Recipes and so you'll never run out of tasty and easy ways to celebrate them in their various glories. All the usual suspects are here—gazpacho, panzanella, Caprese salad, bruschetta—along with ways to put them up for all year long use, in a basic sauce or a salsa you can yourself.
