Our Favorite Boxed Chicken Broth

Hi, everyone! Welcome back to the series we're calling Pantry Power. Yep, that's one serious title for some pretty serious business: Helping you weed through ALL the choices in the grocery store aisle to find the very best pantry staples. Up today: chicken broth!

Store-bought chicken broth is an essential pantry staple. While not as tasty as its homemade counterpart, we buy it because sometimes it’s the only thing standing between us and a quick weeknight pot of soup or a finished braise or casserole.

The Simply Recipes team set out to find the best store-bought boxed chicken broth … and we think we’ve found it! We tasted our way through 10 boxes that ran the gamut on flavor—too salty, too bland, weird aftertaste, basically water—and found a solid contender for the pantry.

Our winner is a great everyday option for most recipes calling for chicken broth. Plus, it’s super affordable and easy to find in most grocery stores. (We also found a homemade stock dupe that is so like the real thing we could hardly believe it!)

Have We Met? Introducing the Simply Recipes Team.

This Is Us!

This Is Us!

Here at Simply Recipes, there's a whole team of people working together to bring you new recipes every week. We are all familiar with the delicious highs and the "what's for dinner?!" lows that accompany anyone cooking a meal from scratch, so we do the hard work to make it a little easier on you.

Here's some more about our team!

OUR BEHIND-THE-SCENES TEAM

Top row, from left to right: We are led by Emma Christensen, our Editor-in-Chief, who often considers popcorn to be a meal. And we wouldn't be here without Simply Recipes' founder, Elise Bauer, who can't decide which she loves more, artichokes or avocados. Summer Miller, Associate Editor, is an avid hiker and gardener.

Bottom row, from left to right: Our Community Manager, Claudia Cash, is, in her words, a mega dance machine. Megan Gordon, our Director of Marketing and Sales, spends her free time doing yoga and eating ice cream. Carrie Havranek, Associate Editor, unabashedly loves potatoes, yoga, and farmers markets. Andy Christensen, our Art Director, enjoys getting lost in good fantasy/sci-fi fiction of any sort.

RECIPE TESTING

All of our recipes are made with the home cook in mind. We want you to love our recipes as much as we do! But not every home kitchen is set up the same way, so as of early 2017 we now do an extra round of recipe testing with a team of recipe testers working from their home kitchens.

These testers make and give feedback on each new recipe we've developed before it goes up on Simply Recipes. We do this to ensure each recipe is as good as it can be before we share it with you!

We like to keep the conversation going on our social channels as well (as one does these days!). Find us on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter.

Thank you for being a part of our community!

Cheers, and happy cooking!
